Bees and Butterflies
Near the visitor center are flower gardens designed to attract pollinators. These
gardens are a success. Many bees, particularly honeybees, visit the flowers there.
Carpenter Bee - significantly larger than honeybees
Possibly a sweat bee - this critter was very, very small
Herrick Lake forest
The Herrick Lake forest, several miles west of the arb, is wooded with an assortment
of wild flowers. The clover flowers and thistles attracted pollinators.
Bumblebee on clover - this bee is smaller than a carpenter bee and has a furry abdomen
