Cantigny is a large park filled with several museums and formal gardens. While I enjoy nature in a less structured format than formal gardens, the poppies are worth a trip. I went to Cantigny with the primary goal of seeing if the poppies were in bloom.
As I was getting out of my car in the Cantigny parking lot, I heard a strange noise. Looking around, I saw a photographer running toward the parking lot, camera attached to a tripod, unusual, but not the source of the noise. Looking around again I finally saw a large tom turkey on the parkway next to the parking lot. I grabbed my camera, made some basic adjustments, and moved toward the bird to take some pictures. By then the other photographer had set up her camera and was also photographing the bird. The turkey did not seem to mind all of his paparazzi. Apparently, somewhere near-by, but unseen, was a hen turkey. The tom had higher priorities than dealing with two crazy humans with cameras.
Generally, the poppy blooms were past their peak. Several were still looking good though.
It amused me to see mushrooms growing uninvited on the highly manicured lawn.
