River Locks
We passed through four river locks on our way downstream to the Pacific. The following
images are from the first two locks on our journey.

We approached our first lock on the trip downriver.

Due to the flooding, the spillway at the dam was letting through an unusually large
volume of water.

We entered the lock

Once the water dropped, the lock gates opened and we were able to proceed. The style
of lock gate on this lock is called batwing. This lock dropped us an impressive
90 feet.

White pelican, taking flight: White pelicans are common below the dam due to the
abundance of fish.

The next lock

The style of gate on this lock is called guillotine.
