Mark Twain dubbed the Wiamea Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". Perhaps you can see why. Like the mainland Grand Canyon, the Wiamia Canyon was created by erosion.
In these pictures, you can see that the soil is red. Because a volcano created Kaua'i, the soil has a significant iron content, which oxidized over time. In other words, the soil is rusty.
