Waimea Canyon State Park and Koke’e State Park adjoin one another in the center
of the island of Kaua’i.
Waimea Canyon
Waimea literally means red water.
Waimea Canyon is also known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific".
Europeans introduced goats to Kaua’i in 1792. While it is fun to spot large mammals
in the wilderness, the goats are bad news. They are destructive; they eat indigenous
plants and cause erosion.
Koke'e State Park
At 4000 feet, we were in the clouds. When there are no clouds, the view here is
great. Oh well, perhaps next time.
