Here in northern Illinois, Cormorants are fairly common birds. They hunt by swimming underwater to find fish. We usually see them when they are diving for fish, when they are drying their feathers, or when they are flying. Getting a good look at a whole bird, up close, is unusual. However, this bird was willing to pose for me.
