Transition 2009 - Fall to Winter

Transition Geese and ducks stay around as long as there is open water.
Transition Sandhill Cranes migrate south through northeastern Illinois around Thanksgiving. These cranes are about 4 feet tall with a 5 to 6 foot wingspan. They make a distinctive warbling sound, and fly in v formations, much like geese. In interest of full disclosure, this is a picture of a caged crane.
Transition Early December snow usually does not stay around.
Transition Freezing rain, the commuter's bane, makes for interesting photography.
